Joey Pelupessy

Joey Pelupessy's route to Sheffield Wednesday and beyond began at SVVN Nijverdal before he joined the youth ranks at FC Twente, where he broke through with Jong Twente in 2013. The move that established him came in July 2014, when he signed for Heracles Almelo on a free transfer; he grew into the captaincy, wearing the armband in his final campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday signed him in January 2018, and he stayed until the end of the 2020-21 season. A move to Turkish football followed in July 2021 with Giresunspor, before he returned to the Netherlands in April 2022 to sign a three-year deal with FC Groningen, where he again wore the captain's armband. In January 2025 he joined Lommel United on a free one-and-a-half-year contract.

The most notable turn in his career came off the back of his Dutch youth caps: having represented the Netherlands from under-16 to under-20 level, Pelupessy switched allegiance and made his senior international debut for Indonesia on 25 March 2025, in a 1-0 win over Bahrain in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Coach Patrick Kluivert singled out his display for praise. Pelupessy has since gone on to earn caps in matches against Australia, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, and has reached ten appearances for Indonesia.
