About the player
Jonas Adjei Adjetey grew up playing in Accra, moving through Teshie Football Academy before senior football took him to Great Olympics and then Berekum Chelsea. He joined the Swiss club in August 2022, starting out with the under-21 side before working his way into the first team for the 2023-24 season and making his Swiss Super League debut that December. The centre-back stayed patient through the development stages and was rewarded with a Super League title alongside Basel in 2024-25.
That breakthrough season fed into a big-money move in February 2026, when Wolfsburg paid a fee reported at around €10 million to bring him to the Bundesliga on a contract running to 2030.
Adjetey's international path has followed a similar trajectory. He represented Ghana at under-20 level, including at the Maurice Revello Tournament, before earning his senior debut in October 2024 as a substitute against Sudan in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. He was named by head coach Carlos Queiroz in Ghana's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to wear the number 4 shirt at the tournament.
