About the player
Julien Astic's route into the Clermont first team ran through a national billiards final. In January 2025, at 16, he retained his title as French Junior Champion in carom billiards (5-pin). He started out with Interclubs de Football BBRM before joining Olympique de Valence's development pathway in 2016, then moved to Clermont Foot 63's academy in July 2020.
He played for the reserve side in National 3 in the 2021–2022 season before stepping up to the under-19s, and in April 2023 he captained that side to the final of the Coupe Gambardella, Clermont's first appearance in the final of the competition. The team lost 4-2 to AS Monaco.
He signed his first professional contract with Clermont on 26 June 2025, an internal promotion from the academy rather than a transfer, initially running to June 2026 with two optional additional years. His senior debut followed on 23 August 2025, when he came on as a substitute in the 85th minute of a Ligue 2 fixture against Grenoble Foot 38, a match Clermont won 2-1.
