About the player
By the time his contract expired, Masson had made over 229 appearances for the club across Ligue 2, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue, and had taken on the captaincy.
A move away nearly came far earlier. In 2019, Angers SCO agreed a fee of €1.5 million for him, only for the transfer to collapse after Masson failed his medical because of a knee cartilage injury. Valenciennes also turned down an offer from Lorient around the same period, choosing to keep him. That year, readers of La Voix du Nord voted him the club's Player of the Year.
Masson's departure finally came in June 2025, when his contract ran out and he signed as a free agent for FC Sochaux-Montbéliard on a two-year deal with an option for a third season. He described the switch as a "choice of the heart."
Over his career to date, Masson has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in professional competition.
