About the player
Leo Walta scored 16 goals in the 2025 Allsvenskan season, a single-season record for IK Sirius. The previous mark of 15 belonged to Philip Haglund.
Walta grew up in Vantaa and started at Pakkalan Palloseura before joining HJK Helsinki in 2011. In 2019 he played for the club's reserve side, Klubi 04, in the Kakkonen. That September he moved to FC Nordsjælland in Denmark, and he made his senior debut there in July 2021. The Football Association of Finland named him Young Player of the Year that year.
Regular football came through two loans in 2023. He scored three goals in 14 appearances for HB Køge and two in 11 for Mjällby AIF. In March 2024 he joined Sirius, in a deal reported at €1.25 million, and the record season followed.
That form led to Swansea City. He arrived on loan on 2 February 2026 for 37 million SEK, with an obligation to buy, and the club made the move permanent on 1 July. He is now on loan at LAFC.
Walta has 14 senior caps for Finland and one goal, against Andorra in November 2025. In the 2026 FIFA Series Finland reached the final, where they lost to Cape Verde on penalties.
