Mauricio Leonel Martínez

Mauricio Martínez joined Sarmiento de Junín as a free agent in January 2026, on a one-year deal, taking the number 16 shirt in midfield. It is the latest stop in a career that began at Unión de Santa Fe, the club he joined as a youth player after coming through Independiente de Santo Tomé, his hometown side. He made his senior debut for Unión in August 2013 and became one of the players who helped the club win promotion to the Primera División the following year, going on to make 91 appearances before leaving in 2016.

A move to Rosario Central followed, then in July 2018 a transfer to Racing Club, where Martínez spent his most successful years. He won the Liga Profesional in the 2018/19 season and lifted the Trofeo de Campeones twice, in 2019 and 2022, before adding the Copa Sudamericana in 2023 — a campaign in which he was also named to the tournament's Team of the Season. A loan spell in Ecuador with L.D.U. Quito came in between, in 2023, though the option to sign him permanently was not taken up.

Martínez returned to Rosario Central in 2024 for a second stint, then went back to Unión de Santa Fe on loan in January 2025, with a buy option attached, scoring three goals in 31 appearances during that year at the club where his career started.

At international level, he represented Argentina's under-23 side, and scored against Honduras at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
