About the player
Marcus Tavernier came through the academy system twice over. He started out at Newcastle United before switching to Middlesbrough in 2013, where he worked his way up and made his senior debut in August 2017.
Tavernier's development was also tracked at international youth level with England. He was capped eight times for the under-19s, scoring once at the 2018 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, and went on to earn 15 caps for the under-20s, including an appearance at the 2019 Toulon Tournament.
