About the player
Mattéo Veillon's route to Ligue 2 ran through the amateur ranks. Born in Poitiers, he started out at local club Stade Poitevin before moving into the LB Châteauroux academy, where he spent four years largely with the reserve side. A brief taste of senior football at Châteauroux between October 2020 and January 2021 did not turn into a regular role, and in 2023 he left as a free agent for AS Montlouis, well below the professional tiers, in National 3.
At Montlouis, Veillon became a fixture at the back, starting regularly across the 2024–2025 season. That run of consistent football preceded his move to FC Annecy, again on a free transfer, where he has since established himself as a first-team centre-back in Ligue 2. He made 16 appearances in the 2025–2026 season and set up a goal along the way. This season he has continued in the side, playing six matches so far and scoring against Reims in August.
He has not featured for any French national youth or senior side. His career so far has been built on free transfers between clubs rather than fees, a path that took him from regional amateur football to a regular starting berth in the French second division.
