About the player
Mattie Pollock captains Watford, and the club's supporters named him their Player of the Season for 2025/26. It is a long way from Polton Allstars, the side he played for between 2016 and 2018 after leaving Leeds United's youth system.
He turned professional with Grimsby Town in 2019, and in May 2021 Watford signed him for a reported £250,000 plus potential add-ons. He first went out on loan to Cheltenham Town, where he played 39 times, scored three goals and was voted the club's Supporters' Young Player of the Season for 2021–22.
He made his Watford debut in August 2022. The following January he went to Aberdeen on loan until May and played 20 times, scoring four goals.
His first goal for Watford came in August 2024, in a 5–0 EFL Cup win over Milton Keynes Dons. He has scored three in all competitions for the club. As of January 2026 he had made 91 appearances, 86 of them in the league. In March 2025 he was picked in the EFL Team of the Week.
