About the player
Maxwell Gyamfi grew up in Dortmund and passed through the youth ranks at TuS Körne, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 before joining VfL Bochum, where his senior career began in 2019. He made no first-team appearances there, and it was at Hamburger SV II, from 2020, that he first became a regular, making 30 appearances and wearing the captain's armband.
The move that shaped his career came in 2022, when he joined VfL Osnabrück. Over three seasons he made 97 appearances, won the Niedersachsenpokal in 2022–23 and scored his first professional goal in the 2. Bundesliga the following season. Osnabrück extended his contract in November 2022, and he stayed with the club until the deal expired in the summer of 2025.
Gyamfi then signed for 1. FC Kaiserslautern on a free transfer. He has made 27 appearances since arriving. A right-footed defender of Ghanaian heritage, he has not represented Germany or Ghana at any level.
