About the player
Born in Berlin, Mert Yılmaz built his early game in Germany. He came up through Nordberliner SC and Tennis Borussia Berlin, then joined RB Leipzig's academy in 2014, working through the club's U17 and U19 sides. A move to Bayern Munich followed in 2018, where he spent two seasons with the reserve team in the Regionalliga Bayern and 3. Liga, making 44 appearances and scoring once.
He signed a five-year contract with Antalyaspor in September 2020. A switch to Beşiktaş had been reported around the same period, with a fee of €500,000 mentioned, but that deal fell through and he went to Antalyaspor instead. Since then, loan spells have shaped his career more than settled first-team football at his parent club: a season at Bursaspor in 2021–2022, and now a loan to BB Bodrumspor for 2025–2026.
At international level, Yılmaz has represented Turkey at both U19 and U21. He has not featured for the senior national side.
A right-footed defender, Yılmaz has spent his career so far moving between German academy football and Turkish top-flight and second-tier sides.
