About the player
Milton Oni made his senior debut for Colchester United in August 2024, in an EFL Cup tie against Reading, and scored his penalty when the match went to a shootout. He had come through the club's academy after joining from XYZ Academy in 2021, and had already shown what he could do at senior level during a loan spell at Maldon & Tiptree in the 2023–24 season, where he made 28 league appearances and scored once.
That breakthrough season was cut short the following month. Playing against Brentford in the EFL Cup in September 2024, Oni suffered a serious knee injury, later diagnosed as a ruptured ACL and a torn meniscus. It was the kind of setback that keeps a young player out for the best part of a year.
Oni had signed his first professional contract with Colchester United in June 2024, shortly before that debut. After working his way back from injury, he was sent out on loan again in March 2026, this time to Hornchurch.
