About the player
Robert Hunt joined Brighton & Hove Albion's academy at the age of 12 and worked his way up to the senior squad, making one appearance before a loan to Oldham Athletic in January 2017. That loan led to a permanent move that summer, reportedly for a fee of around £400,000, and Hunt went on to make 71 appearances for the club.
His contract at Oldham was ended by mutual consent, and in June 2019 he signed for Swindon Town on a free transfer. He established himself as a regular starter there and won the EFL League Two title in the 2019–20 season as Swindon secured promotion to League One. When his Swindon contract expired, he moved on again, joining Leyton Orient on a free transfer in July 2022, and picked up a second League Two title with the club in 2022–23.
Hunt left Leyton Orient in July 2024 to sign a two-year free transfer with Colchester United, a move he has said was shaped by his existing connection to managers Danny and Nicky Cowley, whom he knew from school. He has made 63 appearances for the club since.
