About the player
Misha Engel's path to professional football ran entirely through Alkmaar. Raised in Broek op Langedijk, he started out at amateur club BOL before a spell at AFC '34, then joined the AZ Alkmaar academy in 2015. He signed his first professional contract there in June 2021, and the club extended it twice, the second time in May 2023 through to 2025.
Engel spent his entire senior career to date with Jong AZ in the Eerste Divisie, making 95 league appearances for the reserve side between 2021 and 2025. He made his debut on 23 August 2021 against TOP Oss, and his first professional goal came just over a year later, on 5 September 2022 against FC Dordrecht. Because Jong AZ competes as a reserve team, it was not eligible for promotion or cup competitions, so those 95 appearances came without a title to show for them.
On 24 June 2025, Engel left AZ for Almere City on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract that runs until the summer of 2028. He has since become a regular fixture at his new club, with 15 league appearances by April 2026.
There is no record to date of Engel receiving a call-up to any Netherlands youth national side.
