About the player
Mohamed Koné broke into ASEC Mimosas' senior squad in Ivory Coast at 17, part of an academy pipeline that has long fed talent to European clubs. That route delivered him to Aston Villa in July 2025, in a deal built on a strategic partnership between the two clubs. He spent the 2025/26 season with Villa's Under-21 side in Premier League 2 and the Vertu Trophy, and scored his first competitive goal against Peterborough United.
Koné was part of the Aston Villa squad that won the UEFA Europa League that season, when Villa beat SC Freiburg 3–0 in the final, though he did not play in any senior competitive matches for the first team. In June 2026 he moved on loan to FC Annecy for the 2026/27 Ligue 2 campaign, with reports suggesting the deal could include a buy option, though that has not been laid out in official statements.
Internationally, Koné has represented Côte d'Ivoire at youth level, earning five caps for the Under-20 side between June 2024 and May 2026. He has also featured at Under-23 level, though he has not yet been capped by the senior national team.
