Orlando Núñez Castillo

Orlando Núñez Castillo is a Peruvian left-footed player born in Jaén who took the long route into the professional game, starting out at Academia Deportiva Cantolao and making his top-flight debut against Cienciano in the opening round of the 2020 Liga 1 season. He stayed with the club through 2021 before moving on to Universidad César Vallejo, a switch that brought little immediate first-team stability but set up two loan spells that shaped his career more than the parent club itself.

The first, at Deportivo Binacional in 2023, gave him minutes in a title-chasing environment. The second, a year later at Cienciano, mattered more: Núñez became a regular starter there, the clearest run of consistent football he had had to that point. When César Vallejo were relegated, both sides agreed to end his contract in November 2024, and rather than waiting on a new club he moved immediately, signing for Deportivo Garcilaso on a free transfer to play in the 2025 Apertura.

He built on that spell into the first half of the 2026 season, making 14 appearances for Garcilaso before a June transfer to Asociación Deportiva Tarma to join their Torneo Clausura and Copa de la Liga campaigns. None of his moves have carried a transfer fee — free transfers and loans have carried him from club to club instead — and he has yet to add a trophy or individual award to his record, nor has he been called into Peru's national set-up at any level. What stands out instead is the pattern: a player who has rarely stayed put for long, but has kept finding a starting shirt somewhere.
