About the player
Santiago Simón grew up playing in the youth ranks of Cooperativa Tortuguitas before River Plate brought him into its academy in 2018, and he went on to make his senior debut for the club under Marcelo Gallardo in November 2020.
In August 2025, Simón left River Plate for Toluca in a deal reported at $3.5 million for half of his transfer rights, with an obligation for the Mexican club to buy a further 25% depending on performance targets being met. He signed through to June 2029. Playing under Antonio Mohamed, Simón has already won the Campeón de Campeones and the Torneo Apertura in 2025, and followed those up with the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the Leagues Cup in 2026.
At Toluca, Simón has settled in as a versatile presence in midfield, equally capable of playing as a right midfielder, an interior, or dropping into a defensive role.
