About the player
Coventry paid Oostende a reported €1.5m in the summer of 2023 to bring Tatsuhiro Sakamoto to England. He came through Aoba FC and FC Tokyo as a boy, then went to Maebashi Ikuei High School before four years at Toyo University, where his form earned him a specially designated stint with Montedio Yamagata in 2018 — a season in which he never actually played a match for the club.
A loan to Belgian side KV Oostende in January 2022 was made permanent within months, and it was from there that Coventry signed him.
His international career has been brief by comparison. Those two caps, both earned in June 2021, remain his only senior appearances for the national side.
