About the player
Tony Miettinen was part of the Mjällby AIF squad that won the club's first Swedish championship. The Allsvenskan title was secured on 20 October 2025, and it put Mjällby into the second qualifying round of the 2026–27 Champions League.
The defender had arrived in February 2025 from Odds BK in Norway. Mjällby said they bought out his contract, and they did not disclose the terms.
His route there began in Finland. Miettinen started out at SiPS in Siilinjärvi and moved on to KuPS in Kuopio, playing for the reserve side KuFu-98 in 2018–19. Between 2019 and 2021 he was also attached to the academy of Nordsjælland in Denmark, and he made one senior appearance for the club in 2020–21. Back in Kuopio, he joined the KuPS first team in 2022, after a season with KuPS Akatemia. KuPS finished second in the Veikkausliiga in both 2022 and 2023.
In 2023 he spent time on loan at AC Oulu. His first Veikkausliiga goal came there, on 27 June 2023. He returned to KuPS that year and left for Odds in February 2024.
For Finland, the milestone came at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest. In a friendly against Hungary on 5 June 2026, Miettinen scored his first senior international goal in the 71st minute. Finland lost the match 2–1.
