Willum Þór Willumsson

Willum Þór Willumsson left Iceland as a teenager, where he came through the ranks and made his first-team debut in 2016. Two years later he scored six league goals, the kind of return that persuaded BATE Borisov to bring him to Belarus in 2019 for a fee in the region of €250,000.

Go Ahead Eagles picked him up in July 2022, and within a year he was the club's top scorer, a return good enough for the Dutch side to extend his contract to 2026 the following August. That form caught Birmingham City's eye, and in the summer of 2024 they paid close to €4 million for him, a club-record sale for Go Ahead Eagles. He repaid the move immediately, helping Birmingham win League One in his first season and adjusting to Championship football the year after.

In February 2026, NEC Nijmegen brought him back to the Netherlands for around €1.5 million, signing him to a contract through June 2028 with an option to extend. He marked the move with his debut on 7 February 2026.

On the international stage, Willumsson has become a regular fixture for Iceland since his debut against Estonia in January 2019, reaching 19 caps without finding the net. Major tournaments have eluded him so far, with Iceland missing out on the World Cup and European Championship in the years since he broke through.
