Yannis Issfu

Yanis Issoufou made his Ligue 1 debut for Montpellier against Nantes at 16 years and 359 days, the youngest debutant in the club's history. He had joined the academy in June 2022 after eight years in the youth ranks at Nîmes, and signed his first professional contract the following July. Alongside first-team minutes, he featured for Montpellier's reserve side, appearing 22 times and scoring five goals.

In August 2026 he scored the winner against Nancy in Ligue 2. Montpellier turned down approaches from five clubs, including Schalke 04, and agreed to sell him to Millwall for around €2.5 million on 1 September 2026. He wore the number 16 shirt at Montpellier before the move.

Issoufou holds French, Nigerien and Moroccan nationality, and his underage international career reflects that. He represented France at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level, reaching the final of both the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup with 14 caps and three goals at that age group. He had also turned out for Niger's under-17 side in 2022, scoring twice in four appearances. That earlier spell caused a stir during the 2023 World Cup, when Senegal lodged a complaint over his eligibility to play for France; the complaint was withdrawn after FIFA gave guarantees on the matter.
