About the player
Zech Obiero's international career began in March 2026. He made his debut for Kenya against Estonia on 27 March, then scored his first goal for the national side three days later against Grenada. He was born in Redbridge, England, and represents Kenya.
Obiero spent seven years in Tottenham Hotspur's youth system before moving to Leyton Orient in 2019. He signed his first professional contract with Orient in February 2022 and made his senior debut on 30 April of that year, in a 2-0 League Two win over Crawley Town.
Regular football came through loans. He spent most of 2023 at Cheshunt, from February to October, and then joined Chelmsford City for a month. Back at Orient, he was named Man of the Match in a 3-1 League One win over Cheltenham Town on 6 April 2024.
Obiero joined Tranmere Rovers on loan for the 2025–26 season. The spell overlapped with his first call-ups to Kenya, and he made both of his caps in March 2026. He has since moved on to Gillingham, again on loan from Leyton Orient. None of his moves away from Orient involved a transfer fee.
He is a right-footed central midfielder.
