About the player
The 2022–23 season is the one that made Žan Vipotnik a name beyond Slovenia. Back at Maribor after two loan spells, he finished as top scorer in the Slovenian PrvaLiga with 20 goals.
Vipotnik came through the Maribor youth academy and made his senior debut in 2020. He went on loan to Gorica for the 2020–21 season, then to Triglav Kranj, where he scored nine goals in the Slovenian Second League.
In July 2023 he moved to France and joined Bordeaux, for a fee reported at around €2.7 million. He scored 10 goals in Ligue 2 in his first season, and the club named him its Player of the Month for November 2023. The season ended badly for the club, however. Bordeaux lost their professional status, and Vipotnik left as a free agent.
On 1 August 2024 he signed a four-year contract with Swansea City. He plays as a centre-forward and is listed as comfortable with either foot.
For Slovenia he has won 26 caps and scored five goals. He has not won a league title or domestic cup with any of his clubs.
