Aldosivi

Aldosivi have spent the past several seasons shuttling between Argentina's top flight and the battle to stay there: in 2025/26 the side reached the round of 16 after beating River Plate in the previous round, matching a run they had already managed once before, in 2021/22.

The name itself is a relic of Mar del Plata's port. It comes from the surnames of the French engineers and businessmen behind the company that built the harbour — Allard, Doelfus, Sillard and Wiriott — with the W swapped for a V because the telegraph alphabet of the time had no letter for it. The club was founded on 29 March 1913. For two years around the turn of the 1980s it disappeared from the fixture list under its own name, merging with local sides Talleres and Banfield to play as Defensores del Puerto before reverting to Aldosivi.

The green and yellow stripes were not the original idea. Aldosivi first took the field in the blue, white and red of the French flag, a nod to the founders' origins, and only switched after a local shop donated a set of green and yellow shirts that the players kept wearing.

Nationally, Aldosivi have never lifted a major trophy. Their honours board belongs to Mar del Plata itself — six titles in the regional Liga Marplatense, won across the 1970s and 1990s — plus a 2005 Torneo Argentino A Clausura that still left them short of promotion after a final defeat to Ben Hur. Home games are played at the Estadio José María Minella, holding upwards of 35,000. The fiercest fixture on the calendar needs no continental context: it is the derby against Alvarado, the other club from the same city.
