AS Roma

Italo Foschi, a secretary in the city's Fascist federation, forced the merger — Roman FC, Alba-Audace and Fortitudo-Pro Roma folded into one club, and Foschi became its first president. The name Associazione Sportiva Roma has never changed since, and the date, 7 June 1927, is the only one the club counts as its own.

Three Scudetti mark the club's league history, in 1942, 1983 and 2001, spaced out enough that each carries its own story. Nine Coppa Italia wins fill in the gaps between them, and in 2022 the club added a first continental trophy in six decades, the UEFA Europa Conference League, beating Feyenoord in the final under captain Lorenzo Pellegrini.

No name carries more weight at the club than Francesco Totti, who played from 1992 to 2017 — 786 matches, 307 goals. The rivalry with Lazio, the Derby della Capitale, sits above every other fixture on the calendar; Juventus and Napoli supply the others, sharper in different decades.

Rome gave the club its wolves — I Lupi, after the Capitoline she-wolf — and its more common name, I Giallorossi, for the red and yellow it has worn since the beginning. The Stadio Olimpico took until 1953 to open properly, long after the ground had first broken in 1928, and a roof went up ahead of the 1990 World Cup. It holds over 70,000, shared with Lazio on derby nights, when both ends of Rome turn out under the same colours split down the middle.
