Atlas Delmenhorst

SSV Jeddeloh knows the fixture as the Delmenhorster Derby, and Atlas Delmenhorst have not always been around to play it. The club that carries the name today was built by splitting off from Eintracht Delmenhorst on April 4, 2012, taking over that club's place in the league pyramid — itself a repair job, since Eintracht had been formed in 2002 out of the youth section of the old SV Atlas after that club went insolvent finishing bottom of its division. The original Atlas dated to 1973, a merger of three Delmenhorst sides, FC Roland, VSK Bungerhof and SSV Delmenhorst, backed by the construction equipment maker Atlas Weyhausen, which gave the new club its name and its blue and yellow. When the sponsorship ended in 1999 the club became Delmenhorster SC; three years later it was gone.

What survived that collapse is now, in its rebuilt form, playing in the Regionalliga Nord, having gone up as champions of the Oberliga Niedersachsen in 2025–26. The cup has been kinder than the league table over the years: two wins in the Niedersachsenpokal, in 2019 and 2025. Further back, in 1980–81, the club reached the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal before losing to Borussia Mönchengladbach — a tie the club met again in the first round in 2025–26, forty-five years on, and lost again. In between there was a first-round exit to Werder Bremen in 2019–20.

Günter Bernard's name still carries weight at the club: a goalkeeper who played in the 1966 World Cup final for West Germany before turning out for Atlas and later managing them.

Delmenhorst sits in Lower Saxony, and its team plays at the Städtisches Stadion an der Düsternortstraße, a ground with room for 12,000 though only 6,000 of those places are licensed for use, 900 of them under cover.
