Go Media Stadium in Auckland's Penrose district was known as Mt Smart Stadium until it took a sponsor's name, and it holds about 25,000 for sport. They arrived in a place already used to big crowds.
The club exists because of a licence. In November 2023 it went to the American billionaire Bill Foley, whose Black Knight Football Group also owns AFC Bournemouth, and the team entered the A-League Men in 2024. The colours are black with electric and royal blue.
The first season did not read like a debut. Auckland won the Premiership in 2024–25, their first year in the league. Steve Corica, the coach who took them there, stayed to lead them to the Grand Final the following season, where they beat Sydney FC 1–0 for the Championship. Around him were captain Hiroki Sakai and the goalkeeper Alex Paulsen.
In 2026 they also won the first OFC Professional League. Domestically, the fixture that matters most is the New Zealand Derby against the Wellington Phoenix.
Corica left in 2026, after the second title had been secured. The task now falls to whoever follows him.
