Bastendorf

In the last sixteen of the 2024/25 Coupe de Luxembourg, Bastendorf found themselves level with a name few in the Ehrenpromotion get to share a pitch with. Getting there had taken a 3–2 win over FC Luxembourg City and a 3–1 victory against Orania Vianden. Dudelange won 1–4, but for a club that has never lifted the cup, reaching that round marked the furthest it had gone.

The name FC 47 gives away the rest: the club was formed on 6 November 1947, and the number has stayed attached to it ever since. It has spent most of its life in the second tier, winning the 2. Division three times, in 1982/83, 1991/92 and 1996/97, and finishing runner-up on four further occasions. The last of those, in 2019/20, ended without a proper conclusion at all, the season abandoned partway through because of the pandemic.

Ken Schmitz played his early football at Stade Millewiss before moving on to Jeunesse Esch and into the Luxembourg national side. Marc Binsfeld, capped at under-21 level, is another name Bastendorf can point to from its own ranks.

Geography has done more than history to shape its rivalries. Proximity to US Berdorf/Consdorf 01 has produced the sharpest of them, with matches against AS Hosingen and FC Lorentzweiler adding to a fixture list built on nearby postcodes rather than shared trophies. The ground itself holds 1,000, modest even by Ehrenpromotion standards, which is where Bastendorf continues to compete.
