RM Hamm Benfica

The club began as a merger, when FC Hamm 37, a Luxembourg City side dating back to 1937, joined forces with RM 86 Luxembourg on 26 March 2004. It played first under the name FC RM Hamm before adding "Benfica" to its title on 10 May 2006, after arranging an affiliation with the Portuguese club S.L. Benfica — a link that also brought the red and white colours still associated with the side, its squads stocked with Portuguese players. That relationship later broke down, and in May 2022 the club merged again, this time with Blue Boys Muhlenbach, dropping the Benfica name altogether to become FC Luxembourg City; the new crest folds in blue from Muhlenbach and green from Hamm 37 alongside the old red-and-white check.

RM Hamm Benfica never reached the Luxembourg National Division, but it won the second-tier Division of Honour twice, in 2006–07 and again in 2014–15, going up to the top flight both times. Dino Toppmöller served as player-coach for that second promotion, while René Peters, who had captained the Luxembourg national team, turned out for the club between 2012 and 2014.

The team's matches were played at Stade du Cents, in the Cents district of Luxembourg City, a ground holding 2,800. Supporters there took to calling themselves Les Red Hammers.
