Benin Women

On 14 January 2022, in Lomé, Benin beat Togo 2–0. The result mattered because of what came before it: a team that had withdrawn from the 2008 qualifiers and the 2008 Olympic qualifying tournament, and in 2018 pulled out of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Women's Nations Cup, with the federation president saying the side was "not yet competitive". For most of the years between, Les Amazones barely played.

Their first official match, on 19 February 2006 against Malawi, was a 1–0 win in qualifying for the African Women's Championship. Bouraïma Bathily scored the only goal in that match. Her other goal, against Mali, is the one that makes her the team's all-time top scorer with a total of one. Mali won that second-round tie 4–1 on aggregate, and it remains Benin's only attempt at qualifying for the continental finals until this decade. The highest FIFA ranking, 96th, came that September, in the same year as the debut. The side fell to 152nd in 2023–24 and stands at around 139th.

Recent years have brought more matches and a few results. Symphorien Tèhou coached from 2021 to 2023, and Immaculée Agbakou followed him. Abdoulaye Ouzérou, formerly in charge of the under-20 side, was appointed in 2025. Benin beat Sierra Leone 3–1 in Bo on 25 February 2025 and Kenya 2–0 in Abidjan on 2 March 2026. In October 2025 they met Nigeria in qualifying for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations: a 0–2 defeat at home, then a 1–1 draw away.

Home games are played at the 35,000-seat Stade de l'Amitié Mathieu Kérékou in Cotonou. Togo, across the western border, are the rival. That is why the 2022 win in Lomé, away from home, is the result the team is still measured against.
