Bermuda's football set-up took shape as part of the wider organisation of sport across the territory, with the Bermuda Football Association established in 1928 to oversee the national side.

The team has stayed outside both the World Cup and the CONCACAF Gold Cup at the level that would define a football nation — the closest it came in the Gold Cup was a group-stage exit in 2019, and in the Caribbean Cup the run stopped at the semi-finals in 2007.

Reggie Lambe has carried the side for close to two decades, debuting at sixteen in 2007 and now holding the appearance record with 63 caps. Nahki Wells, the all-time leading scorer with 20 goals, gave Bermuda a moment of genuine international notice in 2021 when he scored against Barbados in 17 seconds, the fastest goal in Gold Cup history. Results have picked up recently — Bermuda beat the Cayman Islands and Cuba in June 2025 to reach the third round of 2026 World Cup qualifying, under manager John Barry Nusum — before losses to Jamaica, Curaçao and Trinidad and Tobago ended that run. A first World Cup finals appearance remains the one target the record still does not show.
