Billericay Town

Doug Young remembers 1979 for one afternoon at Wembley. It was the club's third Vase in four years, following wins in 1975–76 and 1976–77.

The club took shape in Billericay, Essex, in 1880 and carried the plainer name Billericay Football Club until 1946, when Town was added. Royal blue and white have stayed the colours throughout, and the "Ricay" nickname sits alongside the older "The Blues".

New Lodge, on Blunts Wall Road, has been home since 1970. A 2017 redevelopment took the ground to 5,000 capacity, with 2,000 of those seated.

Across the South Essex Derby, Canvey Island have supplied the fixture with no love lost. The team continues to compete in the non-league pyramid, still measured against that Wembley afternoon four decades on.
