Brighton Women

The ground took on a fixture rare in the women's game this year: an FA Women's Cup final run that ended in defeat to Manchester City.

The line back to 1967 runs through a telephone exchange rather than a boardroom. Workers at the Post Office in Brighton put together a side called Brighton GPO, and it changed hands and names more than once, playing for a spell as C&C Sports, before Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. took the club under its own name in 1990. Promotion arrived in 2015–16 with the Southern Division Premier title, and the following season the club finished as runners-up in the FA WSL 2.

Crystal Palace supply the nearest needle, the two sides meeting in what has come to be called the M23 derby after the road that connects Crawley to south London. Longer term, the club has committed to something no other women's team in Europe has built for itself: a stadium designed and built specifically for the women's game, due in Brighton for the 2030–31 season.

But it is Libby Bance who ties the club to itself: she came through Brighton's own academy and made her senior debut in 2019.
