In May 1981 Jena went to Düsseldorf for the European Cup Winners' Cup final and came away beaten 2–1 by Dinamo Tbilisi.
Under that name they won the DDR-Oberliga three times, the last of those titles in 1970, and the FDGB-Pokal four times between 1960 and 1980.
Peter Ducke played through almost all of it. He arrived in 1960 and was still there in 1981. His brother Roland played alongside him.
Bundesliga in 1994, again in 2006 and 2007, relegated in 2008 and again in 2012.
Robert Enke kept goal here between 1997 and 2001, at the start of his career.
The ground on the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld was rebuilt around them, the work finishing in 2024 with 15,432 places.
