CFR 1907 Cluj

CFR Cluj go into this Liga I season still measuring themselves against their own recent past: eight league titles between 2008 and 2022, and no ninth since. The gap was cushioned last year — Cupa României, won in 2025, their fifth and the first major trophy to reach Cluj since that last league title.

The club was founded on 10 November 1907 in Cluj-Napoca, then part of Austro-Hungary, as Kolozsvári Vasutas Sport Club — a railway workers' team. The name changed repeatedly over the following century (KTC, MÁV SC, Locomotiva, CSM Cluj, Clujeana among them) before settling, in 2017, on Fotbal Club CFR 1907 Cluj. CFR stands for Căile Ferate Române, the Romanian state railway, and supplies the nickname that survived every rebrand: Feroviarii, the Railwaymen.

Home games are played at the Stadionul Dr. Constantin Rădulescu. The club's own figure for capacity is 17,408; a number from the 2008 reconstruction, 22,198, still circulates on other sites and has never been formally retired.

Across the city, Universitatea Cluj supply the rivalry — Derbiul Clujului — and CFR have had the better of it since 1972. Mihai Adam was the club's leading name in the early 1970s; Ricardo Cadu, the Brazilian in the side for that breakthrough title in 2007-08, is the one most credited with the modern era's arrival.

The academy was set up in 2013. It has yet to produce a graduate the club points to as its own.
