Seville, May 1986: Barcelona could not beat a goalkeeper who saved every penalty he faced, and the shoot-out ended 2-0. The following year the same side took the UEFA Super Cup off Dinamo Kyiv.

The club that won in Seville began in June 1947 as ASA București, the army's sports association in the capital. That military parentage is the reason its history now sits in two places. Romania's Supreme Court ruled in 2014 that owner Gigi Becali could not use the Steaua name or crest; in 2017 the side he owns became FCSB. In June 2025 the court settled the rest of it — UEFA lists CSA Steaua as the 1986 winners.

By that reckoning FCSB has two league titles, won in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Counted the traditional way, with both periods run together, the club has 27 Romanian championships and 24 cups.

Home is the Arena Națională, the largest ground in the country at 55,634 seats, owned not by the club but by the city. The red and blue of the shirts gave the side its nickname, Roș-albaștrii.
