About the player
David Popa came through Lucefărul Cluj before joining the FCSB academy in 2019, and by the 2023/24 season he had broken into the club's first-team squad. That campaign ended with the Liga I title, and Popa was in the squad for the Romanian Super Cup that followed.
The following season brought a step onto a bigger stage: a Champions League appearance in which he set up a goal for a teammate. Game time in the league itself was harder to come by, so FCSB sent him out on loan to Politehnica Iași for 2024/25, where he made two Liga I appearances without finding the net.
Back at FCSB, Popa's first goal for the club finally arrived in February 2026, in a Romanian Cup tie against Universitatea Craiova. In August 2026, FCSB sent him out again, this time to Concordia Chiajna, under a cooperation agreement between the two clubs aimed at giving their under-21 players competitive football.
Left-footed and slightly built at 172cm, Popa has yet to be capped at senior international level, but he has moved steadily through Romania's youth ranks, from the under-15s up to a first under-19 appearance in 2025. He captained the under-17 side, scoring five goals in twelve matches.
