André Duarte

André Duarte grew up in Sacavém and made his way through Portuguese football far from the country's biggest clubs, starting at SG Sacavenense before joining Estoril Praia's under-23 side. A run through Alverca and Praiense followed, and it was at Praiense, in the 2020/21 season, that he collected the only silverware of his career so far, finishing runner-up in the Campeonato de Portugal.

His move abroad came in 2022, when he left Estrela da Amadora to join Universitatea Craiova in Romania as a free agent. From there his path took him to Italy, signing for Reggiana in 2023, and then to Hungary, where Újpest handed him a contract through 2028 and he went on to make 39 appearances for the club.

What set Duarte apart from most of that steady progression through mid-table sides was the way it ended. In October 2025 he left Újpest without the club's consent, a move Újpest treated as a breach of contract. FCSB signed him in January 2026, and FIFA issued him a provisional licence, a Green Card, allowing him to play in Romania while the compensation dispute with Újpest remained unresolved. FCSB president Gigi Becali came out publicly in Duarte's defence, describing Újpest's handling of the case as unlawful.

He arrived at FCSB as a 195cm right-footed centre-back, with no senior call-ups to the Portugal national team on his record and no major trophies beyond that Praiense runner-up finish.
