Chrobry Głogów

Chrobry Głogów came within one round of Ekstraklasa football in 2022, losing the promotion play-off final and stopping there — a club that has still never played a single season in Poland's top flight in its history.

The furthest it went in the Polish Cup was a semi-final in 1979/80, ended by a 0:4 defeat to Legia Warszawa. Everything else has been built lower down the pyramid, one promotion at a time: out of the third tier in 1984 and again in 1991, out of the second tier in 1993 and once more in 2014, plus climbs from the fourth division and a further third-tier title along the way. Six times the club has finished top of its group and moved up a level, which is less a record of dominance than of persistence.

The name on the badge is younger than the club itself. Football in Głogów began in 1946 as Energia Głogów, and only on 17 January 1957 did a merger of two local sides, Kolejarz and Sparta, produce the club known today as Chrobry. The years before that merger were unsettled — clubs formed, folded and reformed under different names — and it is from 1957 that Chrobry has operated without interruption.

Home matches are played at the Stadion GOS on Wita Stwosza street, a ground that holds 2,817 seated spectators. The team plays in orange and black, which has given it the nickname Pomarańczowo-Czarni — the Orange-and-Blacks. In the second-tier I Liga, the club's best league finishes to date have been sixth place, achieved in both the 2015/16 and 2021/22 seasons.
