Miedź Legnica

On 24 June 1992, Miedź Legnica held Górnik Zabrze to 1-1 in the Polish Cup final and won the shoot-out 4-3. The captain that day, Wojciech Górski, later earned a call-up to the Poland squad. Later that year Miedź lost the Polish Super Cup.

Miedź won the I Liga in 2017/18 and reached the Ekstraklasa, where an 11th place after the regular round in 2018/19 stands as the club's best finish in the top flight. The next season ended last, and so did 2021/22 — a season the club had begun by winning the second division again. Promotion, one year up, relegation, then the climb repeated.

The 2022/23 side carried names from further afield than Lower Silesia usually sees: the Netherlands international Luciano Narsingh in midfield and the Chile forward Angelo Henríquez up front. That same season Miedź reached the semi-finals of the Polish Cup, 31 years after winning it, and went out to Jagiellonia.

Home is the Stadion im. Orła Białego, holding 6,156. The derby that matters is against Zagłębie Lubin.

The green, sky-blue and red belong to a club put together on 14 September 1971 out of an existing side, MZKS Legnica, in a town whose copper mining gave the team its nickname — Miedzianka. It ran as KS Miedź Legnica for 25 years, changed name again in 2011 when the businessman Andrzej Dadello took it on as a joint-stock company, and has carried the copper in its name throughout.
