Drenica Skënderaj

Bottom of the table, 2022/23: Drenica finished last in the Superliga and dropped out of Kosovo's top flight for the first time since the division existed. It took the club two seasons to climb back — Group A of the First League, won outright in 2024/25, sent Drenica straight back up.

The club has carried the name Drenica since Kosovo's independence; under Yugoslav rule it played as FK Budućnost, and in Albanian as KF Ardhmëria, though the record of exactly when one name gave way to the next has not survived. What has stayed constant since 1958 is the town, Skënderaj, and the ground, Stadiumi Bajram Aliu, which holds 4,000. The red shirt and black shorts gave the club its everyday nickname, Kuq e Zinjtë, but the crest — a black double-headed eagle — earned it another: Shqiponjat e Zeza, the Black Eagles.

The name most associated with Drenica left it a decade before any of that. Amir Rrahmani came through the youth ranks and was promoted to the first team for the 2011/12 season; he went on to captain Kosovo and to win the Serie A title with Napoli. Ghanaian defender Benjamin Agyare passed through more briefly, on loan from Drita in 2022.

Drenica's biggest occasion at senior level ended in defeat: the 2005/06 Kosovo Cup final, drawn 1-1 with Prishtina and lost on penalties. Prishtina remains the name that comes up whenever Drenica's history is discussed — the club that has stood on the other side of its closest brush with a trophy.
