Three of them, Dolf Veldhuizen, Willem van de Geest and Evert Hoolwerf, put the club together in June 1979. It carries the name of the village of Eemdijk, though it was registered in Bunschoten: permission to register in Eemdijk was refused.
The club now plays in the Tweede Divisie, a level its founders had no reason to imagine.
In 2024–25 Eemdijk reached the second round of the KNVB Beker and drew FC Utrecht at home.
Sportpark De Vinken, on De Kronkels, holds around 1,700 and has artificial turf under floodlights.
