Fátima

Promotion in 2008/09 stands as the clearest measure of what Fátima has managed at national level: the club won the II Divisão that season, beating GD Chaves in the final and going up to the Segunda Liga. It lasted one year there. The following season, 2007/08, ended in relegation after a sixteenth-place finish, the last in the table. What made that campaign worth remembering happened in the cup rather than the league: under manager Rui Vitória, Fátima knocked both FC Porto and Sporting CP out of the Taça da Liga, results that had no bearing on their eventual drop but gave the town something to talk about regardless.

The years since have played out at district level, with AF Santarém titles in 2015/16 and again in 2023/24, and the Supertaça Dr. Alves Vieira won in the same two seasons. Between those came a second-tier district title in 2021/22, the kind of staircase climbing that keeps a club competitive without threatening a return to national football.

The link to Benfica has mattered more to individual careers than to the club's own results. Nélson Semedo spent a season on loan there, and Nélson Veríssimo played for Fátima during the Segunda Liga year and the Taça da Liga run. Os Grenás, the nickname drawn from the maroon of the home shirts, still play in front of no more than 1,545 people at the Estádio Papa Francisco, and there is no fixture in Ourém carrying the weight of a derby — the closest the club comes to a rival is the coverage that local press gives to matches against Oliveira do Hospital and against Caldas SC.

A Primeira Liga or Taça de Portugal campaign has never featured Fátima's name, and the single season in the Segunda Liga remains the only time the club has reached that level at all.
