Forres Mechanics

Forres Mechanics go into another Highland League season carrying the North of Scotland Cup they lifted in the spring. Mosset Park still holds 2,700, a few hundred of them seated, and it sits a little south-east of where the ground originally stood.

The club is the oldest in the north of Scotland, one of only two sides still playing in the Highland League that were there for its first season back in 1893, and its two league titles sit thirty years apart almost to the year — 1985/86 and 2011/12. The chocolate brown and gold hoops date back further still. Locally the fixture that matters most is against Lossiemouth.

The nickname, the Can Cans, has a more curious cousin from the years after the Second World War, when the club became known for a time as the Foreign Mechanics. Forres had hosted European servicemen and then signed some of them, among them a Polish goalkeeper, Henry Wisniewski.

Among those who have wandered through the club more recently is Cameron Ferguson, who signed in March 2024. But the player Forres supporters tend to reach for first is Nathan Sharp, who was part of the side that won the league in 2012.
