Germania Ober-Roden

The Sepp Herberger Foundation singled out Germania's youth work in 1982, the same year the club won the Kreis Cup. It is a small-town club. Ober-Roden is a district of Rödermark in Hesse. The club has been there since 10 April 1908, when its founders met in the Zum Schützenhof restaurant. That makes it the oldest football club in the Dieburg district. Both World Wars stopped play, and each time the club started again.

The post-war years were its best. Germania won the district championship in 1948, 1949 and 1952. The last of those took them into the 1. Amateurliga Hessen, then the top amateur tier in the state, and they stayed for eleven seasons, until 1963. They finished third in 1960. In 1961 they narrowly missed promotion to the Regionalliga Süd.

The club went back to the upper regional levels in 1992, when it was promoted to the Landesliga Hessen-Süd. It finished second there in 2003 and won the league in 2007. That title took the team up to the Oberliga Hessen, then the fourth tier. They played there until 2010, then went down to the Verbandsliga Hessen-Süd. A year later they dropped again, to the Gruppenliga, the seventh tier.

Germania are now a local amateur side, known as Die Germanen, in black and blue. The game that matters most is still the Rödermark derby against TS Ober-Roden.
