Bayern Alzenau

In 2025 Alzenau finished second in the Hessenliga and went up to the Regionalliga only because FSV Fernwald, the club ahead of them, declined the place. They were back down within the 2025–26 season. In 2009 they had also been promoted as runners-up, after SC Waldgirmes turned the place down. The club won the league outright in 2011 and came up through the playoffs in 2019, and each of those stints ended in relegation too.

The Hessenliga title in 2011 is the one championship at that level. The other honours are older. In 1982 the club won the Bezirksliga Unterfranken West and the Lower Franconian Cup in the same year.

Alzenau lies in Bavaria, yet the club plays in the Hessian league system. It moved over in 1992 because the town sits close to the Rhine-Main area, and its opponents are now mostly from Hesse. The phrase «Bayerns hessischster Klub», Bavaria's most Hessian club, grew out of that switch. The nearest big fixture is still local: the Main derby against Viktoria Aschaffenburg. Hanauer FC 93 is the other regional rival.

The ground, the Städtisches Stadion am Prischoß, holds 3,500, of which 360 seats are under cover. Since 2022/23 it has carried the name Mairec Arena; before that it was the Main-Echo Arena. In 2021 José Holebas arrived there. The Greek international had played for Watford, Roma and Olympiacos, and he stayed until 2022.

The club began as the football department of Turn- und Sportverein Alzenau, the town's gymnastics and sports club, and became independent in 1924 under the name FC Bayern Alzenau. From 1945 to 1947 it was known as SKG Alzenau before taking its old name back.
