Hanau 93

Hanau 93 spent 2025/26 in the Hessenliga, the fifth tier. The previous season ended in 13th place and a relegation play-off, which they survived with a point already docked for failing to meet the referee quotas.

The club has been lower and higher than that. In the 1990s it fell as far as the Kreisliga A, the district level, and the climb back took most of the following two decades. Promotion to the Hessenliga came in 2019, after 33 years away. Ervin Skela, an Albanian international midfielder, played through that stretch. He came out of retirement to join in 2014, stayed until 2019 and scored 44 goals in 69 appearances.

The high point is older. In 1978/79 Hanau played in the 2. Bundesliga Süd, the same year they won the Hessen Cup for the second time, the first having come in 1950. They finished 17th with 29 points, and two games against FC Augsburg show how that season went. Hanau lost 7:3 away and won 6:5 at home.

Locally, the reference point is Hanauer SC 1960. HSC 1960 won the first Hanau derby of the Hessenliga era 2-1 in 2023/24.
