Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo sits close to the Spanish border in the Guarda district. The club was set up in 1901, and by 2026 it will mark 125 years since its founding.
Football at Ginásio Figueirense has never been the section's proudest corner — that distinction belongs to the basketball team, which took the Portuguese league and the Taça de Portugal in 1976-77. The footballers' high point came decades later and on a smaller stage: the 2006/07 district title in Guarda's first division, which opened the door to the Taça de Portugal the following season. There, drawn against União Lamas, they drew 1-1 and went through 8-7 on penalties.
The football team plays at the Estádio Municipal de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. Recent Taça de Portugal runs have been shorter and harder: in 2024/25 the club went out to AD Sanjoanense 0-5.
