Gorleston

Gorleston is a town folded into Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast, and its football club has been the one constant running through it since members of the local cricket club put a side together in September 1887.

The ground has been less settled. Emerald Park was destroyed by arson in November 2022, and Gorleston spent the years afterwards shuttling between Crown Meadow and the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium before landing at the Wellesley Recreation Ground, which they now share with Great Yarmouth Town. A move back to the Gorleston Recreation Ground was announced in December 2024, but the club is committed to the Wellesley through the 2026/27 season yet.

Eddie Woods is still the name attached to Gorleston's goalscoring, 437 of them across his time in the shirt, a tally that has outlasted every ground the club has played on. Robert Fleck passed through too, before a career in the Football League and for Scotland. The trophy cabinet is built mostly on the Norfolk Senior Cup, which Gorleston have won more than any other club in its history, most recently in 2023, and on the Eastern Counties League Premier Division, taken five times, last of all in 2022.

For now, the derby with Great Yarmouth Town is played out on borrowed ground, with the promised return across town still to come.
