In the 2013–14 season Leighton Town were the only amateur side in their division that paid its players nothing. The Reds had a shirt and a fixture list.
Winning the South Midlands League Premier Division in 1991–92 took them into the Isthmian League.
The recovery was slow and then quick. The Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division title arrived in 2022–23. Three seasons after that, Leighton won the Southern League Division One Central, a title that carried them to Step 3 of the non-league pyramid for the first time. That is a level the club never reached in the 1990s or 2000s, when it was winning promotions.
The nearest rivalry is with AFC Dunstable. Matches between them are called the Bedfordshire Derby, though the label is also attached to games against Bedford Town and Real Bedford.
Promotion did not change where Leighton play. Bell Close holds 2,800 people, 400 of them seated.
